The Detroit Shock of the Women's National Basketball Association, WNBA, has defeated the Connecticut Sun, 79-55, to win the Eastern Conference title and advance to the league finals.
Swin Cash and Katie Smith led the Shock with 16 points each Sunday night to lead Detroit to a 2-1 win in the best-of-three playoff series and eliminate the two-time defending conference champions.
It will be the Shock's first return to the league finals since winning the WNBA championship in 2003. They will face the defending champion Sacramento Monarchs in a best-of-five series beginning Wednesday in Detroit.
Sacramento advanced to the final Saturday by defeating the Los Angeles Sparks, 72-58, to sweep the Western Conference final series 2-0.
