The U.S. men's basketball team has defeated Germany, 85-65, while European champion Greece beat France 73-56 in the quarterfinals of the World Basketball Championship.

Carmleo Anthony led the U.S. team with 19 points, including 10 points in a third-quarter run that put the Americans ahead to stay.

In the day's other game, Lazaros Papadopoulos and Antonis Fotsis, both players in Russia with the club Dynamo Moscow, led the scoring for Greece with 14 points each.

The U.S team plays Greece in one of Friday's semifinals while the other match has Spain taking on Olympic champion Argentina. The finals are Sunday.
