In Namibia, a bill passed by the National Assembly yesterday conferring the status of ?founding father? on former president Sam Nujoma has sparked heated debate. The bill was proposed by members of Mr. Nujoma?s party.  The opposition says it?s insulting to the intelligence of Namibians. The opposition accuses the former president of castigating his opponents and not being all-embracing and a father figure while in office. The opposition also says the fact that the Mr. Nujoma is actively involved in politics is an issue for them. But the ruling party defended the bill, saying it is a national issue, not a party one.
