Britain has closed its embassy in Yemen, citing a high threat from terrorism.

A statement on Britain's Foreign Office web site said that as of December 30, officials have "specific information that terrorists are in the final stages of planning attacks against British targets and other Western interests in Yemen."

The advisory said Britain's embassy would be closed Wednesday due to specific security concerns.

It also said British citizens should be especially careful in places frequented by foreigners.

In recent years, Yemen has been the site of several high profile terrorist attacks and plots. Authorities have arrested hundreds of militants with suspected links to al-Qaida.
