Britain's Prince William, the second in line for the country's throne, has graduated from the elite Sandhurst Military Academy and won his commission as a British army officer.

William's grandmother, Queen Elizabeth, addressed the graduates urging them to meet their country's expectations.

William's father, Prince Charles, and his girlfriend Kate Middleton also attended the ceremonies.

Prince William joins his younger brother, Harry, in the Blues and Royals regiment of the Household Cavalry. William will train to become a troop commander in an armored reconnaissance unit.

After a year in the army, he is expected to spend similar periods in the Air Force and Navy.
