Colombian authorities say they have captured a leading rebel commander after tracking him for three months.
Officials say 49-year-old Regulo Leal, alias Arley Leal, was arrested in Medellin Friday. He was wanted on homicide and kidnapping charges.
Authorities say Leal commands the 32nd Front of the rebel Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), and that he oversaw a 1996 attack on a military base in which 28 soldiers were killed and 60 others kidnapped.
Colombia has been mired in a long-running conflict involving the FARC and a smaller rebel group known as the ELN, right-wing paramilitaries and the government. Thousands of people are killed in the conflict each year.
