The University of Connecticut captured the American men's college basketball title, on an 82-73 victory over Georgia Tech University, in the championship game of of the national collegiate tournament.

It is the second national championship for Connecticut Coach Jim Calhoun. In 1999, Calhoun directed Connecticut to its first national crown. The Huskies finished this season with a 33-6 record. Early this season, Connecticut struggled, with one of its losses to Georgia Tech by 16 points. But, after a loss in the regular season, finale, Calhoun's Huskies rebounded in the tournament.

"This team only found itself struggling a little bit -- not in the sense of we didn't win a lot of games -- but then got its second wind," he says. "Over the past four weeks, we've been an amazing basketball team. When we're healthy, they're the best team in America. Tonight, on April 5, the year 2004, they proved they're the best team in America."

Georgia Tech ended its season with a 28-10 record.
