Fred Couples prevailed in four playoff holes over fellow American Tiger Woods to win a record fifth Skins Game, an annual exhibition golf tournament.

Couples won all his money on Sunday in La Quinta, California, starting with a birdie putt worth $300,000 and eight skins, or points, on the first hole. He finally won the tournament after Woods hit his tee shot into the water on the last playoff hole. Couples claimed the final three skins to finish with a winning total of $640,000.

Also playing were Australian Adam Scott and world number one women's player Annika Sorenstam of Sweden. Couples has won a record $3,515,000 and 77 skins in 11 appearances in the tournament.
