Egypt has kicked star football striker Ahmed Mido off its team for his behavior during a semifinal victory in the African Cup of Nations tournament.

Mido initially refused to come off the field before arguing for several minutes with Egyptian coach Hassan Shehata on the sidelines Tuesday. His replacement, Amr Zaki, scored the winning goal with his first touch of the ball in the 81st minute, putting Egypt into the final with a 2-1 victory over Senegal. Ivory Coast is also in the final on Friday after eliminating Nigeria, 1-0.

The 22-year-old Mido was a crowd favorite after scoring the game's opening goal. But the crowd turned on him, filling the Cairo stadium with a cascade of chants when he did not leave the field.
