Russian President Vladimir Putin meets in Paris Friday, with the leaders of France, Germany and Spain for talks aimed at bolstering ties between Moscow and the European Union.

It will be the first such meeting among the four leaders - Mr. Putin, French President Jacques Chirac, German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder and Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriquez Zapatero.

Mr. Putin is also expected to hold bilateral talks with Mr. Chirac, in addition to the four-way meeting.

The talks come ahead of an EU-Russian summit set for May 5 - 10.
