German football team Hanover 96 striker Clint Mathis of the United States could return to Major League Soccer after playing for the Bundesliga club for just one year.
After starting with four goals in his first five games, Mathis did not score for the German team again until the end of last season.  He has appeared in just four games in the new season and has scored one goal.

Mathis, 28, came to Hanover from the New York/New Jersey Metrostars in January, and would like to return to the MLS club.

Hanover general manager Ilja Kaenzig says all of the parties are hoping to reach a deal.  Mathis has 44 caps and has scored 11 goals for the U.S. National team.
