The European Football Union, UEFA, has suspended Valencia defender David Navarro for seven months for his part in a brawl last week at the end of a Champions League match against Inter Milan.

UEFA also said it would ask the International Football Federation to extend Navarro's ban to all international competitions. Five other players were also suspended while both teams were fined more than $200,000.

At the end of the scoreless draw, Inter midfielder Nicolas Burdisso attacked defender Carlos Marchena. Navarro ran onto the field from the bench and hit Burdisso in the face, breaking his nose. Players from both teams then poured onto the field, and the brawl spilled into the stadium tunnel.

Marchena will be banned for four Champions League matches, while Burdisso and teammate Maicon have been suspended for six games. Inter's Ivan Cordoba will be out for three matches and Ricardo Cruz will have to sit out two games. The players have three days to appeal.
