Defending champion Roberto Heras of Spain has taken over the leader's yellow jersey after winning the 15th-stage at the Tour of Spain cycling race.

The three-time champion finished Sunday's 191-kilometer stage in 4:53:53.  That was 32 seconds faster than countryman Samuel Sanchez.  Spain's Javier Pascual Rodriguez finished third, 46 seconds behind the winner.

Heras' victory allowed him to take the yellow jersey away from Denis Menchov.  He has a four minute and 30 second lead over the Russian, after Menchov finished the stage more than five minutes back in 18th place.

The 21-stage race ends September 18 in Madrid.
