Israeli officials say a military committee investigating last week's explosion on a Gaza beach that killed eight Palestinian civilians is likely to conclude that Israeli forces were not responsible.
The committee is expected to formally release its findings later Tuesday.
But officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity, say the report will conclude that the blast was caused by explosives planted by the Palestinian militant group Hamas.
They say shrapnel taken from two wounded Palestinians who were evacuated to Israeli hospitals showed that the explosives were not made in Israel.
Palestinians blamed Israel for the deaths of civilians on Friday. The image of a Palestinian girl crying over her father's body was broadcast worldwide, sparking widespread condemnation.
Immediately after the incident, the Israeli army said it regretted any harm to innocent civilians. Some information for this report was provided by AFP and AP.
