Landslides in Nepal Kill 34

Nepalese authorities say landslides and floods triggered by days of heavy rains killed at least 34 people in the western part of the Himalayan nation Tuesday.

Local officials say at least 12 people died in Dadeldhura district, about 480 kilometers west of Kathmandu, when the landslide swept away two houses. The rest of the people perished in neighboring districts, including Achham.

Rescue teams were dispatched to the affected areas to search for survivors, but their efforts have been hampered by bad weather.

Hundreds of Nepalese die each year from landslides and flooding.
