Authorities in southern China say at least 23 people were killed and 20 others are still missing following Friday's landslide.

Official media report 1,000 rescue workers are searching for survivors in the small village of Zuojiaying in the mountains of Guizhou province.

The landslide occurred before dawn Friday, burying some residents in their homes as they slept.

The cause has not been determined.
