Mahyar Monshipour has retained his World Boxing Association super bantamweight boxing title with a sixth round victory over Yoddamrong Sithyodthong of Thailand.

Monshipour, born in Iran but a French citizen since 2001, made his third successful defense since he won the 55-kilogram crown in July 2003. The win in Paris Monday improves his record to 26 wins, two losses and two draws.

Yoddamrong, the one-time title-holder in 2002, lost only his second bout in 43 fights.

Monshipour unleashed a ferocious right hook to the body at the start of the sixth, forcing the Thai to his knees. Yoddamrong got to his feet, but was backed onto the ropes trying to cope with another onslaught, forcing the referee to stop the fight.
