Australian cyclist Robbie McEwen has won the sixth stage of the Tour of Italy in a sprint finish, on a day when Olympic champion Paolo Bettini of Italy recaptured the overall lead.

McEwen finished the 153-kilometer ride (from Viterbo to Marina Di Grosseto) in 3:37:17 hours. Jaan Kirsipuu of Estonia was second with Ukraine's Volodymyr Bileka third.

Bettini earned a 6-second bonus for a mid-stage sprint and that pushed him back into the overall lead, three seconds ahead of Thursday's stage winner Danilo Di Luca of Italy. Luca Mazzanti of Italy is third overall, 0:31 seconds behind Bettini.

Saturday's seventh stage moves into the Tuscan region and covers 211 kilometers from Grosseto to Pistoia. The Tour ends May 29 in Milan.
