The New Jersey Nets have posted another big victory on the road in the National Basketball Association playoffs. New Jersey beat the host Detroit Pistons, 88-86, Tuesday to move ahead in the best-of-seven Eastern Conference finals, 2-0.

The series moves to New Jersey for the next two games, with Game 3 on Thursday. Detroit has won only two of 16 playoff games on the road this year. Only two teams in NBA history have won a best-of-seven series after losing the first two games at home.

The Nets rallied from an 11-point fourth quarter deficit Tuesday as Kenyon Martin scored 16 points in the final period. He led New Jersey with a game-high 25 points while teammate Jason Kidd finished with 20 points, seven rebounds and five assists. Richard Hamilton led Detroit with 24.

The winner in the East will face the winner from the West for the NBA Championship. The Dallas Mavericks beat the San Antonio Spurs in the series opener on Monday (113-110), and tip off Game 2 later Wednesday in San Antonio.
