The United Nations has reported new clashes in Sudan's war-torn Darfur region between rebels and government forces.

The UN mission in Sudan said Thursday it evacuated seven staff members from the southern Sharia area to the town of Nyala after the fighting broke out.

It also reported clashes in Jabal Marra in central Darfur.

U.N. spokeswoman Radhia Achouri reported Thursday a continuation of fighting with heavy weapons around the west Darfur town of Golo.

Rebels with the Sudan Liberation Army attacked government-held Golo on Monday. The United States condemned the violence, saying the rebels killed a large number of Sudanese military personnel.

A Sudanese aid worker was killed Wednesday when a U.N. helicopter crashed while trying to evacuate aid workers from the fighting around Golo.
