Detroit defenseman Nicklas Lidstrom scored on a power play in overtime to give the Red Wings a 3-2 win over the host Ottawa Senators in National Hockey League action Saturday.

Lidstrom's slap shot from the point flew past Ottawa goalie Patrick Lalime as Detroit won its second game in a row. Tomas Holmstrom and captain Steve Yzerman also scored power play goals. Red Wings goalie Dominik Hasek got his second win in as many games since coming out of a year-long retirement, stopping 17 shots.

Montreal scored three times in the second period as the Canadiens shut out the Toronto Maple Leafs 4-0. Habs' Goalie Jose Theodore made 21 saves in Montreal's first win this season.

The Atlanta Thrashers edged Washington 4-3 for their first win ever against the Capitals. Ronald Petrovicky scored a pair of goals in the Thrashers' first game since attending the funeral of teammate Dan Snyder Friday in Canada.

The 25-year-old centerman died last Sunday of injuries he sustained in a car crash while riding with Thrashers' right wing Dany Heatley, who now faces vehicular homicide charges.

Coming off a season-opening tie, the defending Stanley Cup champion New Jersey Devils won their first game of the season, a 2-1 victory over the Carolina Hurricanes. Martin Brodeur made 30 saves to lead the Devils.

The Pittsburgh Penguins rallied from a three goal deficit to tie the Philadelphia Flyers 3-3. Aleksey Morozov scored the game-tying goal in the third period. Hall of Famer Mario Lemieux also scored.

Other winners around the league were the Islanders, Stars, Flames and Canucks. The Bruins and Panthers skated to a 1-1 tie.

New York's Mark Parrish and Alexei Yashin each scored twice in the Islanders' 6-0 shellacking of the Buffalo Sabres - the first win for new head coach Steve Sterling. New Dallas captain Mike Modano scored on a power play in the Stars' 3-1 victory over the Nashville Predators. Calgary scored early in the third period to top the San Jose Sharks 3-2. Vancouver's Matt Cooke had a pair of tallies in the Canucks' 3-0 shut out of the Edmonton Oilers.
