Orthodox Christians around the world have celebrated Easter with candlelit services and traditional outdoor feasts.

In Russia, President Vladimir Putin attended a service in Moscow led by Patriarch Alexy II.  He congratulated Orthodox Christians and citizens of Russia celebrating Christ's resurrection.

In an address in Saint Peter's Square, Pope Benedict offered prayers for those in the Balkans affected by floods.

Orthodox churches use a different calendar from the Roman Catholic and Protestant churches, so the orthodox celebration of Easter usually falls on a different date for them.
