Police in Riga have detained at least 17 people protesting the visit of President Bush to the Latvian capital.

The demonstrators, who included supporters of Russia's radical National Bolshevik Party scuffled with police who blocked their efforts to enter the security zone set up for Mr. Bush's visit.

The Baltic News Service quotes the Latvian interior minister as saying the detainees may face charges for resisting arrest.

Security is extremely tight in Riga, and the streets are otherwise quiet.
