Pope Benedict XVI says he will publish his first encyclical on January 25.

The pontiff made the announcement Wednesday during his weekly general audience before pilgrims and tourists at the Vatican.

Benedict XVI says the encyclical, titled God is Love will touch on the various aspects of love, especially the physical love shared between a man and a woman, as well as the concept of "agape" - the Greek word for unconditional love.

The pope says he hopes his first encyclical will "illuminate and help our Christian life."

The document was initially scheduled to be released in December, but was delayed due to revisions.
