U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell says the United States and South Korea have reconfirmed their commitment to restart six-party talks on North Korea's nuclear ambitions.

Mr. Powell told reporters in Seoul Tuesday following talks with South Korea's Unification Minister Chung Dong-young that it is time to move forward with more nuclear talks, adding the issue must come to a conclusion.

Earlier, a South Korean Unification Ministry spokesman said Mr. Powell told Mr. Chung that he believed six-party talks will take place after next week's U.S. presidential election.

Mr. Powell, who is wrapping up a three-nation Asian tour, has been trying to forge a multilateral strategy to get Pyongyang unconditionally back to the nuclear weapons talks it boycotted last month.
