Saudi Arabia says it has arrested a man suspected of responsibility for Tuesday's attack on two Americans working at a U.S. military base in Kuwait. Officials say the man, a Kuwait citizen, is being handed over to Kuwaiti authorities.

The Saudi News Agency says the Kuwaiti national was arrested Wednesday while trying to cross illegally into Saudi territory. Officials say an initial investigation indicates he was involved in the attack on two U.S. civilian contractors working at a U.S. base outside Kuwait City.

One American was killed and the other seriously wounded Tuesday when their vehicle was sprayed with automatic gunfire. No one has claimed responsibility.

It was the third attack on U.S. citizens in Kuwait in four months. Two assailants last October attacked a group of U.S. marines, killing one and wounding another, before being themselves shot to death. In November, two U.S. civilians were seriously wounded in an attack on a highway outside the Kuwaiti capital.

More than 15,000 U.S. troops are in Kuwait as part of a military buildup in preparation for a possible war against Iraq.
