Authorities in Saudi Arabia say they have detained 10 people suspected of illegally collecting donations for outlawed militant groups.

Interior Ministry officials said Saturday police arrested eight Saudis in two separate raids late Friday in the western province Jeddah, and another in the city of Medina.  Police say a foreign suspect also was taken into custody.

One report quotes a ministry spokesman as saying it is not clear if the suspects belong to al-Qaida.

In December, Saudi authorities announced the arrest of 136 Islamist militant suspects over a period of more than two months.  Some of the suspects were accused of plotting suicide bombings.

Saudi security forces have battled al-Qaida since the group began a series of terrorist attacks against Saudi targets in 2003.
