Nebojsa Pavkovic
The Serbian government says war crimes suspect General Nebojsa Pavkovic has decided to surrender to authorities and face charges before the United Nations Criminal Tribunal in The Hague.

A government statement Friday said General Pavkovic will fly to The Hague Monday.

The Hague court has indicted General Pavkovic on crimes against humanity for the actions of Yugoslav and Serbian troops against Kosovo Albanians in the late 1990s.

The charges include murder, deportation and persecution. General Pavkovic served as Yugoslav army chief of staff for about two years beginning in 2000.

Serbian authorities issued an arrest warrant for General Pavkovic several weeks ago after he failed to appear at a Belgrade court. He was on trial there in connection with the attempted assassination of a leading opposition figure in 2000.
