U.S. authorities say an alleged gang member who has been on the FBI's list of most wanted criminals has been captured in Mexico.

Emgidio Precaido, Junior was captured last Friday in a rural town in the western state of Nayarit.  Precaido is accused of seriously wounding a Los Angeles County sheriff's deputy during a routine traffic stop nine years ago.

In another development, Mexican soldiers have arrested a suspected drug trafficker near the U.S. border.

The military says Luis Ibarra was carrying $3.6 million in cash and several pieces of jewelry when he was detained.

Mexican President Felipe Calderon has deployed 36,000 troops to fight drug gangs in his country.
