French Open tennis champion Rafael Nadal of Spain has won his 33rd consecutive match on clay and moved to number two in the world by making the finals of the Mercedes Cup tournament in Stuttgart, Germany.

Nadal, the top seed, scored a 6-2, 7-5 win over Jarkko Nieminen of Finland to keep alive a winning streak that dates back to April. The French Open champion will pass Lleyton Hewitt of Australia when the new rankings are released on Monday.

In Sunday's final, the 19-year-old Spaniard takes on 2004 French Open champion Gaston Gaudio, who reached the final when his opponent, second-seeded Nikolay Davydenko of Russia, retired in the second set.
