Romania's Andrei Pavel has spoiled the party for Tommy Haas and his German fans by knocking him out of the semifinals of the BMW Open tennis tournament in Munich.

Pavel, the fifth seed, ousted Haas in three sets 6-4, 6-7, 6-4. The Romanian player faces the winner of the day's other semifinal match between top seed David Nalbandian of Argentina and Jarkko Nieminen of Finland.

The tournament is one of several warm-up events players are using to prepare for the second major tournament of the year, the French Open, which starts May 23 in Paris.
