Top-seed Mariano Puerta of Argentina has advanced to the quarter finals of the Priority Telecom Open clay-court tennis tournament in Amersfoort, Netherlands.

Puerta, this year's French Open runner-up, ousted Juan Antonio Marin of Costa Rica in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2. The Argentine player next takes on Ivo Minar of the Czech Republic, a straight-set winner over Santiago Ventura of Spain (7-6, 6-4).

Later Thursday second seed Fernando Gonzalez of Chile takes on Robin Vik of the Czech Republic, and Raemon Sluiter of the Netherlands plays Daniele Bracciali of Italy.
