Thousands of people are pouring into Cyprus to escape Israeli airstrikes in Lebanon.
U.S. officials say they plan to evacuate more than 1,000 Americans Wednesday and bring several thousand more to Cyprus in the coming days. The U.S. government has been criticized for being slow in evacuating the 25,000 Americans in Lebanon.
Several European vessels are on their way to Lebanon to evacuate more people.
Thousands of other foreign nationals have already been brought out of Lebanon to Cyprus or through Syria. Many people from Arab countries have crossed by land into Syria on the way to their countries.
