Building developers in the United Arab Emirates say a skyscraper under construction in Dubai became the world's tallest building Saturday.

The firm that is developing the Burj Dubai tower said it already soars 512 meters into the sky, and is not yet completed.

The claim has not been independently confirmed.

The Taipei 101 in Taiwan, at 508 meters, currently holds the title of world's tallest building.

Developers of Burj Dubai say they plan to meet all criteria required to officially earn the honor by the time the skyscraper is finished next year.

The tower's final height is a secret. Builders say the structure is already 141 storeys.
