The U.S. State Department says it has information that terrorists are planning possible near-term attacks in Kuwait.

A public announcement put out late Thursday says terrorist groups are developing plans against unspecified targets in the oil-rich Persian Gulf state.

The release gave no further details but said increased security at U.S. facilities may lead terrorists to seek softer targets such as public transportation, public areas, residential neighborhoods, and oil facilities.

The State Department urges Americans in Kuwait to use caution and avoid areas where Westerners are known to congregate.
