The wife of a U.S. citizen and former FBI agent who disappeared during a visit to Iran says she plans a trip there to search for her husband.

In an interview with the Associated Press from her home in Coral Springs, Florida, Christine Levinson said she is convinced her husband, Robert Levinson, is alive and still in Iran. She said she plans to go to Iran even though the U.S. State Department has advised against it.

The Iranian government has denied any knowledge of the missing man, but the State Department says it finds that claim hard to believe.

Robert Levinson retired from the Federal Bureau of Investigation about 10 years ago. His work with the FBI did not deal with Iran. He was last seen in March at the Iranian resort of Kish Island while on a business trip.
