Ethiopian runner Berhane Adere has broken the indoor world record in the women's 5,000-meters race at an international athletics meet in Stuttgart, Germany.

Adere finished the race in 14:39.29 minutes, more than eight seconds faster than the old mark held by Romania's Gabriela Szabo.

Adere is the outdoor 10,000 meters champion from last year's World championships in Paris. The Ethiopian won a 50,000 euro bonus given at the meet for setting a world record.
