In the Major League Baseball playoffs, the New York Yankees overcame a late-game deficit to beat the host Minnesota Twins 6-5 and advance to the American League Championship series.

Ruben Sierra crushed a three-run home run in the eighth inning Saturday to tie the Twins at five runs each. The Yankees scored the winning run on a wild pitch in the 11th inning.

New York took the best-of-five series three games to one, and will host the Boston Red Sox Tuesday in the first game of the best-of-seven match-up to decide who will advance to the World Series. The Red Sox swept the Anaheim Angels to reach the AL title series.

Both National League divisional series could end Sunday.

The Houston Astros took a two games to one advantage over the Atlanta Braves in an 8-5 outcome in Houston Saturday. The Astros will send star pitcher Roger Clemens to the mound today, as Houston looks for its 20th straight win at home.

Los Angeles Dodgers' pitcher Jose Lima shut down the mighty bats of the St. Louis Cardinals 4-0 Saturday, but the Dodgers still trail the series two games to one. Lima allowed just five hits - all singles - in his first complete game in three years.
