Zimbabwean Minister of Health Henry Madzorera said on Wednesday that the cholera epidemic which claimed more than 4,000 lives between late 2008 and May of this year is over.

Dr. Madzorera noted that there were no new cases of cholera in June leaving the cumulative number of cases in the epidemic at 98,592 resulting in 4,288 deaths.

But the minister told reporter Patience Rusere of VOA's Studio 7 for Zimbabwe that public authorities and non-governmental organizations will remain vigilant against a resurgence of cholera in the upcoming rainy season when water sources could be contaminated.
