Thousands of displaced Iraqi Sunnis who fled the Islamic State to the refugee camps of Iraqi Kurdistan's regional capital of Irbil are complaining about a lack of services amid the looming winter season. VOA's Ahmad Zebari reports from the region.
The area known as Sultan Abdullah Heights southwest of the Iraqi city of Erbil is a place where fighting occurs on an almost daily basis between Kurdish Peshmerga forces and militants of the self-styled Islamic State.Â The Peshmerga in the area claim that, a few days ago, IS used chemical weapons against them which affected 22 of their fighters. More than 2 million internally displaced persons are settled in cities, towns and camps in Iraq's Kurdistan region. The city of Shaqlawa has more than doubled in population because of the influx of displaced Arabs. VOA's Randy Ahmad narrates this report from Ahmad Zebari.
