On this edition of Africa 54, Sudan reopens its airspace after repelling an armed revolt by former security agents linked to ousted former President Omar al-Bashir; The United Nations Refugee Agency appeals for $447 million dollars to provide essential aid for more than 900,000 refugees in Sudan; Nigeria marks Armed Forces Day by remembering the soldiers killed in the fight against Boko Haram; Parts of Africa remain under attack by crop-wreaking locusts.

A54 Technology: 

 The U.S. Department of Labor estimates that in 2020 there will be nearly 1.4 million jobs in computer science.  But there are not enough qualified engineers to fill these positions, in particular women.  Kayesu Machayo, who is pursuing a degree in computer science and international affairs at George Washington University in Washington D.C., wants to change the narrative few women in STEM.
