In a two-week offensive, Syrian Kurdish fighters of the YPG (People's Protection Units) recaptured dozens of villages and towns from Islamic State militants. It's one of the few successful anti-IS operations, as the militant group continues to take ground elsewhere in Syria and in neighboring Iraq.
