Using a large cache of data gathered by the Breakthrough Listen Initiative, a Pennsylvania State University team is working to find out if intelligent extraterrestrials are employing the transiting method, which our scientists have successfully used to find exoplanets, to spot planets including Earth. The researchers looked for radio signal emissions from 20 nearby stars that align with Earth’s orbital plane, conditions that could allow ETs to spot our planet. The Penn State team and others say that, so far, they have found no signs of extraterrestrial civilizations.
