Seventeen-year-old Cassandra Hsiao, from southern California, gained acceptance to Harvard, Princeton, Yale, Columbia, Cornell, Brown, Dartmouth and Penn, a feat achieved by a select few.

Hsaio, who emigrated from Malaysia at five years old, impressed admission representatives with not only her academics and extracurricular activities but with an essay she wrote about learning to speak English.

?In our house, there is no difference between cast and cash,? she wrote. ?Which was why at a church retreat, people made fun of me for ?cashing out demons?.?

?Classmates laughed because I pronounce accept as except, success as 'sussess'. I was in the Creative Writing conservatory, and yet words failed me when I needed them most.?

Hsiao, an accomplished poet, entertainment journalist, and playwright, maintained a 4.6 GPA and scored nearly perfectly on her SATs and ACTS.  In an interview with local media, she says she plans on studying journalism, film or theater writing.

In addition to the eight Ivies she was also accepted to Stanford, the University of Southern California and University of California at Berkeley.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the country, 17-year-old Ifeoma White-Thorpe, from Rockaway, New Jersey, was accepted by all eight Ivies and Stanford University.

White-Thorpe serves as her high school?s student body president and is an accomplished poet and writer, recently winning the National Liberty Museum?s Selma Speech & Essay Contest.

She was also one of 150 students across the country to be named a 2017 Coca-Cola scholar, an achievement that comes with a $20,000 scholarship.

Although undecided on which college she will choose, White-Thorpe says she plans to major in biology and pursue a health-related career.
