Conservationists in Malawi have begun the largest-ever relocation of elephants in Africa. Nonprofit African Parks is moving 500 elephants from two overcrowded wildlife reserves in the south of the country to a new elephant sanctuary in central Malawi. Lameck Masina reports for VOA about the relocation exercise he witnessed at the new sanctuary.
South Africa votes Wednesday in local elections that could upset the country's political balance of power for the first time in two decades. The ruling African National Congress, the party of Nelson Mandela, is losing its historic base: the poor and disadvantaged. VOA's Anita Powell has more from Johannesburg.
