The storm of the century hit Puerto Rico Wednesday, with howling winds and heavy rainfall knocking off power and causing floods across the island. On its way to Puerto Rico, Hurricane Maria ravaged several Caribbean islands and killed at least nine people. It is expected to pass by the Dominican Republic on Thursday. After it was spared the worst of Hurricane Irma, the U.S. territory of Puerto Rico is now the target of the eye of Maria, another category 5 Atlantic storm. Maria is picking up strength as it barrels toward the island. Officials say if the hurricane stays on projected path, strong winds and heavy rainfalls could devastate Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. VOA's Zlatica Hoke reports.
