4 Inmates Die in Indonesian Prison Raid

Indonesian officials say a group of well-trained gunmen stormed a prison on the main island of Java and executed four detainees accused of murdering a special forces soldier.

Local police chief Brigadier General Sabar Rahardjo said at least 17 masked gunmen angry about the killing of a member of Indonesia's elite Kopassus military unit broke into the Cebongan prison in Yogyakarta just after midnight Saturday.

Coordinator Minister for Political-Law and Security Affairs Djoko Suyanto told VOA that he had ordered the national police chief and the military commander to investigate the incident, arrest and prosecute the perpetrators.

He refused to address the rumors that the gunmen were members of Kopassus.
