Goh Says Lee to Lead Singapore for Next 15 Years

update

Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong will probably lead the city state for 10 to 15 years, but an official says work has already begun to groom successors to his administration.

Former prime minister Goh Chok Tong said Sunday that when Mr. Lee and his ministers step down, there must be a group of younger ministers ready to take their place.

Senior Minister Goh was speaking at a ruling People's Action Party gathering, where he also announced he is stepping down as the party's secretary-general.

Mr. Lee is expected to assume the party position, traditionally held by the prime minister.

The move comes amid speculation that Mr. Lee will call elections, possibly by early next year, for a fresh mandate.
