Latest Talks on Ending NHL Lockout Stall

update

The National (ice) Hockey League and its players' union have turned down the latest proposals to end a bitter economic stalemate that is threatening to wipe out the entire season.

NHL management on Tuesday rejected an offer made last week by player representatives. The plan featured a 24-percent salary rollback for the remainder of this season. But the 30 team owners are seeking a permanent salary cap, which the players' union rejects. The union also turned down a counter-proposal presented by the league during the meeting in Toronto, Canada.

The meeting was the second between the two sides in six days after three months of silence. The lockout was imposed against players in September after the first round of negotiations failed.
