Reports: NBA Raptors Trade Star Cater to Nets

News reports from New Jersey say that National Basketball Association star forward Vince Carter has been traded from the Toronto Raptors to the New Jersey Nets.

ESPN television network quotes NBA sources as saying that in exchange for Carter, the Nets would send center Alonzo Mourning, Eric Williams and Aaron Williams to Toronto along with two first-round draft picks.

The trade cannot be announced until the NBA approves it for salary-cap purposes. Carter is averaging 15-point-nine points per game this season. He is currently on the injured list with a straight Achilles tendon.

If the trade goes through, Carter would join Jason Kidd and Richard Jefferson in New Jersey's backcourt. Mourning was also looking for a way out of New Jersey. He has asked the Nets to buy out his contract so he could sign with another team as a free agent. The traded players could face one another Sunday when the Nets play at Toronto.
